So for the past few days I've had to entertain myself with doing some hand quilting on this, a version of Grandmothers Flower Garden:
Although it is difficult to see in the photo, I am using a variegated quilting thread. I am liking this effect a lot:
This quilt is entirely hand-pieced. I started it in September and finished the top right after Christmas. I think a hand-pieced top deserves to be hand-quilted, don't you?
Hopefully this back thingamajig will last until the Manly Men that live here decide to vacuum, mop, clean bathrooms, and do all the laundry before I recover. Sounds like a nice little four-day weekend for me, doesn't it?
I'll keep quilting and hopefully be back on my muslin by tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Quilting is an art form that I love, full appreciate but don't seam to have the patience for. Did you sew the entire quilt by hand?
Yes, Gail, I did. Each hexagon finishes out at one and a half inches wide. It was a lot of fun!
I wonder where all those tiny, tiny hexagons came from... And remember when I was a wee lad and you began a quilt for me?
I have one I made that still needs to be quilted. I'm contemplating how to do it because I am not quilting around each hexagon. That is more than I can think about. Good luck on finishing yours. It looks very nice.
Did you do yours on a quilt frame or did you baste it together and then do the quilting?
I pinbasted the quilt together using large safety pins. I have a large oval quilting hoop for quilting.
