Distractions, Distractions

There are several things that keep me from spending all my time with a needle in one hand and thread in the other. Here's the main one:
It's widely referred to around here as the J-O-B. Also, it's the thing that supports many good habits, like pattern shopping on ebay, for instance.
Another distraction right now is this:
It's B-Ball time!
Since I already mentioned e-bay, now is just as good a time as any to show you this:
You can click on this for a larger view. Why do I like it? Why, the collar of course. It's pleated at the corners and at the center. Even though the directions for constructing this are not one bit clear, I think I can work it out. So feminine, and perfect for the South, where it seems to be summer year round. This will be fun in a floral print, don't you think? I also like the pleats on the sides, with the flat tummy. I love the vintage dresses, from the time when women looked so feminine and ladylike. It would be hard to be in a bad mood while wearing this!

Potato and Broccoli Soup Recipe

I made this tonight and it is really good (and easy). We always feed a crowd around here, and this makes a big soup pot full. Divide recipe if desired. Serve with hot toasted garlic bread.

2 quarts chicken broth
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
8 large potatoes, diced
1 large package frozen broccoli florets
1 onion, chopped
1 stick margarine
3 cups milk
1 lb grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup flour
2 to 3 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Heat chicken broth, reserving 3/4 cup. Add soup. Mix reserved broth with flour; whisk until smooth. Add potatoes, broccoli, and onions to broth and cook for 10 minutes. Add margarine and seasoning. Cook about 20 minutes on medium low, stirring occasionally. When vegetables are tender, add broth/flour mixture and stir well (this will thicken the soup). Add milk and cook 4 to 5 minutes. Add cheese, heat through, and serve. Yum!
