Twirl-Almost There....

I'm almost finished, I think. I have one last decision to make.

I've decided that a hot pink ruffle at the bottom will look lost and out of place, since there isn't hot pink anywhere else. So, here's the current status of the front:

And the back:

And since I am so enamored of this view, the full circle:

So I need to decide whether to add this little ruffle around the top edge:

I'm thinking Yes. Opinions?

And here's a hint for using the gathering foot. Fold your soon-to-be ruffle in half and press about 8 inches down the center to get a crease, like so:

When you put the strip in the ruffler, put the needle dead center of the crease. Notice where the seam width marking is on your machine (in my case, it's 1 inch, down there at the very bottom of the photo) and you can easily keep the thing lined up for perfectly centered gathering.

Works for me. But you really have to have a good handhold on the strip as it feeds into the pleater. Whoa, baby!

I'm thinking no on the neck ruffle. How about lime green as an accent ruffle at the bottom?

I like the neck ruffle, but my experience with kids tells me that you may run into the "but it tickles my neck" problem with the Princess, and thus it will seldom get worn.

I love the purple, but it does need a splash of something else -- lime green is a great idea from designdreamer!

The ruffles on the skirt look wonderful! Great job!

P.S. The rolled hems look fabulous. Wow! What a gorgeous dress!

Oh, wow, that is amazing! I have to agree to 'no neck ruffle,' unless the fabric is super-soft and the ruffles won't 'tickle,' like Jen says. (I have a daughter myself, although at 23, I no longer dress her. But, sigh, I used to love to sew for her!)

I love the neck ruffle, I think it balances the top and skirt. Gorgeous.

I just love the ruffle for the neckline, however I wonder if it will be to fussy for the Princess. If I remember correctly on the original photo of this dress it had buttons down the front. I think that if you decide to leave the ruffle off, I would consider the buttons down the front. Personally, I vote for the ruffle. The dress is adorable and I can't wait to see her in it.

Oh how lovely! I want a dress (or skirt) like this!

I agree with the others about the ruffle, it seems a bit uncomfortable. Also, will it collect bits of food and whatnot? It could be difficult to clean.

You have a wonderful talent and your little clothes are adorable!
