A Little Black Dress

Here is the perfect little black dress pattern, courtesy of Vogue, copyright 1955. A perfect jewel neckline, short cap sleeves, wiggle-when-you-walk skirt! But one of the best things about this is the bodice shaping--look carefully and you will see two front bodice darts, the standard waistline dart and a subtle french dart climbing up from the side seam. Guaranteed knockout look.

Here's a scan of the back. Look at the front bodice and you can see the dart shaping in the pattern piece.

This would look great in any fabric, from satins to velvets to lace overlays. Or, just imagine this with a contrast bodice/skirt combination! I have been looking for a fitted bodice to try as a sloper, and this may be a good start for a first muslin. If you've used this pattern before and can share some insights, I'd love to hear from you. Comments, anyone?

Yes, please.

I’ll take one…you think you have enough fabric to make one in my size? I see not how you have time for a blog my dear as you have classrooms and houses full of people you tend to. Just how do you do it?

Where might you be finding these fabulous patterns? And a silly question if I may…are those patterns’ namesake associated with the most influential magazine of the fashion world? Oh my…

Why, yes, Steven dear, they are from the nice folks who bring us Vogue magazine!

And they come from ebay, of course.

And how do I do it all? I don't. I don't cook. I don't clean. I don't do laundry. (Not until the natives start to revolt, that is.)
